We are looking for you as our Sous Chef at The College Hotel, Autoraph Collection by Marriott.

The College Hotel is one of the hotspots in Oud-Zuid. The hotel is housed in a stylish 19th-century building, which opened as a school in 1895. You can spend the night in what used to be the math classroom, the biology classroom or maybe the economics classroom. The hotel is harmonized with “state of the art” design with respect for authenticity. Each room is unique and has its own details from the past. What does the job include?

Are you a passionate chef with a love for hospitality and experience in a classic brasserie kitchen? Then this is your chance to become part of the beautiful The College Hotel and our restaurant The Dean, including our Bar & Bistro, where culinary excellence and guidance come together.

As Sous Chef, you will support the Head Chef in the daily kitchen operations of The Dean and the Bar & Bistro. You will actively work in the kitchen, assist in leading the team, and contribute to a professional and motivating work environment. Additionally, you will help guide students and interns, enabling them to develop their skills in a professional hospitality setting.

What you will do:

✔️ Support the Head Chef in leading, coaching, and developing the kitchen team and students
✔️ Actively work in the kitchen of both The Dean Restaurant and the Bar & Bistro
✔️ Ensure the smooth running of daily operations according to our brand and service standards
✔️ Collaborate with other departments to deliver a flawless guest experience
✔️ Oversee food quality, HACCP guidelines, inventory management, and cost efficiency
✔️ Contribute to menu development with creative ideas and seasonal products
✔️ Motivate the team/students to create a true “WOW experience” for our guests every day

As a Sous Chef, you are a key support for the Head Chef, helping to deliver an excellent kitchen experience while mentoring young talent and contributing to a dynamic and inspiring work environment.

Job requirements

  • Experience: Extensive experience as a Sous Chef

  • Leadership: Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to inspire and motivate a team.

  • Creativity: Innovative in developing new menus and creating unique dishes

  • Organization: Excellent organizational skills to ensure smooth kitchen operations, including inventory management and cost control.

  • Hygiene and Safety: Solid knowledge of food hygiene and safety standards, and the ability to maintain them.

  • Budget Management: Skill in budgeting and managing budgets, including monitoring food costs.

  • Communication: Good communication skills to collaborate effectively with the team and communicate with guests.

  • Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

  • Passion: A genuine passion for cooking
